Audio Direction

The soundtrack should be cozy enough to live with, melancholic enough to make the world meaningful, and epic enough to make discoveries memorable.

Its creative reference points are the memorable warmth and melodic clarity of Stardew Valley, the intimate melancholy of Norman Dück’s “The Scientist”, and the ethereal, haunting atmosphere of PHILDEL’s “Dragonfly Keeper”. These are mood references only, not templates to copy.

  • Cozy melody: hummable motifs, gentle repetition, a sense of everyday life aboard the train and in settlements.
  • Cold melancholy: bittersweet harmony, restraint, and a feeling of loss without turning every track into horror music.
  • Ethereal discovery: delicate textures and unusual harmonies for forgotten places and old technology.
  • Earned epic scale: strings, deep tones, and gradual crescendos reserved for major discoveries and story turns.
  • Pixel-art character: occasional bell-like synths and plucked motifs; avoid making everything sound like an imitation of 8-bit music.
Situation Feeling Approach
Daily train management Comfortable, quietly hopeful Warm piano, plucked strings, gentle rhythm
Long-distance travel Reflective, lonely, beautiful Sparse piano, soft ambience, gradual development
Abandoned places Mysterious, dreamlike Airy textures, restrained dissonance
Small settlements Fragile warmth and community Warmer timbres, consonant harmony, memorable melody
Major discoveries Awe and emotional weight Recurring theme expanded with strings and deeper layers
Danger and storms Unease and pressure Low drones, controlled rhythmic tension, reduced melody

Status: concept only; not yet composed.

A long-distance travel track that begins as an intimate piano piece and gradually reveals the scale of the frozen world. Start with a sparse, original piano motif; introduce a quiet ambient layer; add restrained strings or a secondary melody; then return to the opening motif for a natural loop. The exact tempo and duration should be decided by feel and gameplay testing.

  • REAPER is the primary DAW for composition, recording, editing, sound design, mixing, and batch rendering.
  • Surge XT is an optional free synthesizer for drones, pulses, and atmospheric textures.
  • Add sampled piano and strings when needed, checking each library’s commercial-use license.
  • Test music in Unity at gameplay volume alongside ambience and sound effects.
  • Keep original editable masters and source project files; version approved exports.

The named tracks are references for mood and emotional progression only. Do not copy melodies, arrangements, recordings, or distinctive passages. Create original motifs for Aurora and verify the current license of every third-party sample or instrument used in a shipped build.
