The Craterborn
Identity: Salvage, trade, and technological leverage
Flag symbolism: Broken ring and ember.
Core values: Salvage · Trade · Influence.
The Craterborn grew from scavenger settlements around the ruins of the Great Forge into the most influential faction in the surviving world. Their salvage houses, engineering guilds, trading families, and stationmasters control access to the crater’s most valuable wreckage.
They operate the central ember exchange, finance railway repairs, broker agreements between rival powers, and provide specialist technology that other factions can no longer manufacture. Their trading houses help exchange major factions’ local currencies into the global post-Fall currency, giving them influence over commerce without making them the sole issuer of that currency.
Ambition: Decide how the Great Forge is rebuilt and who controls the future of civilization.
Weakness: The faction is divided between those who want to rebuild the Forge, those who profit from the current salvage economy, and those who fear another catastrophe.
Transit network: Controls important trading hubs, repair facilities, and access to the crater’s railway infrastructure.
Internal groups:
- The Restorationists want to rebuild the Forge.
- The Exchange wants to preserve the profitable trade monopoly.
- The Deep Founders fear the secrets buried below the crater.
